This is just a question out of curiosity since I don’t own a VW, but for the TDI owners taking the buy back, is there any restrictions on condition of the vehicle? Are they appraising each vehicle as it comes in? Or are they setting a standard price?
From today’s article on the FP it sounds like they are using a standard price based only on year and mileage. So, if that’s the case, is there anything preventing an owner from stripping everything of value leaving just what’s required for it to drive?
They could then return the car stripped and sell off all the other parts.

I think mileage is the only consideration.

I am waiting on my documents to be reviewed then all I have to do is make an appt to sell back to VW. As far as I know, as long as the car moves under its own power you are good to go. I’m assuming that if the car is crashed badly then that may affect things but little dings/dents shouldn’t be an issue. I have 2 license plate bolt dents in my rear bumper from when someone rear ended me at a stop light but I don’t think I will be docked for it.

I think we need someone to strip their VW and see how things go. I’m up for lending a hand to who ever that it.

its based on NADA valuation, so it will be MILES based and VALUE based from sept 2015...but...its still conditional upon, well, condition as far as I know. The figure they give you is the “good” condition category, which most should fall into.

I am guessing it will be “reasonable” shape. As in you can’t roll up missing doors and fenders and be “good to go”.

There is no adjustment for condition in the buyback, only mileage. I probably wouldn’t take the body panels off, but short of that, it shouldn’t matter. Different for lease returns, of course.

You won’t be dinged for your dings.

Wrong. Everybody gets “clean” condition, as long as it runs. There is no individualized adjustment for condition--one of the things that makes it such a good deal.

This is correct.

So one could theoretically pull out the radio, swap rims with some junk yard ones, remove seats, etc...that’s a great deal then. Especially if you plan one getting another VW that said parts could potentially work on.

Just has to make it to the dealer on its own power. i friend of mine has a TDi and I’m trying to convince him to do a track day. Secretly I want to take off the doors and cut off the roof.

There’s a thread full of people on TDIClub that are stripping their cars.
The only stipulation that I’m aware of is that the car must be capable of moving under its own 2.0 TDI power.
